Pikachu, Eevee and Meowth – the Pokémon franchise has been hugely popular with fans young and old for decades. The pocket-sized cartoon monsters are world-famous. The company came up with a special campaign for its fans in the run-up to Christmas and set up a Pokémon post office for one day in each of two shopping destinations – Westfield Ruhr Park Bochum and the Pasing Arcaden – enabling visitors to send Pokémon-style Christmas greetings in a special collaboration with the German Post Office.

Exclusive goodies and cute envelopes

Long queues of visitors of all ages lined the aisles of the shopping destinations on the campaign days, waiting to get into the post offices designed in the franchise’s iconic style. Those queueing had the opportunity to get their hands on a cute envelope featuring Pikachu or Eevee, two of the best-known and most popular members of the Pokémon line-up. True to the slogan “One for you, one for someone special!”, the envelopes contained two free packs of the popular Pokémon trading card game. One of them could be sent by post as a Christmas present to a friend or relative.

And fans naturally also had cool photo opportunities, with life-size mascots of the Pokémon characters depicted on the envelopes also on hand “in person” at the venues, giving visitors and fans great mementoes of the day.

Visitors from all over Germany

The campaign was a total success in both destinations, as evidenced by the long queues. In Westfield Ruhr Park, the first customers were already lining up in the early hours of the morning to secure one of the coveted envelopes with trading cards, and a photo with their favourite Pokémon. Some fans even travelled from all over Germany to take advantage of this exclusive opportunity.
